Sampling instructions

    • Possible from sputum, bronchiale lavage, bronchiaal aspirate and positive cultures (solid or liquid medium)

Storage conditions

  • The clinical samples must be kept in the refrigerator at 2-8°C.
  • The cultures are preferably stored at room temperature or specific incubation temperature.
  • The samples and cultures can be sent at room temperature.

Important advice

  • Requests for molecular analysis need to be mentioned explicitly on the request form.
  • This analysis is only performed if multi-drug resistant M. tuberculosisis is suspected.
  • To send cultures on solid medium, the fluid needs to be removed aseptically from the tubes!
  • If you also request a culture and drug-susceptibility testing, the samples cannot be older than 7 days.
  • If you do not need a culture and drug-susceptibility testing, you can also send a DNA extract. Please provide us also with your negative DNA extraction control in that case and mention the extraction method used.
  • For clinical samples, the presence of acid fast bacilli is highly recommended.
