Which test do we use?

  • Standard for M. tuberculosis -complex:
    • MGIT-IRE test: soniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol
    • MGIT-PZA: pyrazinamide
  • Standard in case rifampicine resistant M. tuberculosis-complex was identified or upon request (in case of susepcted multi-drug resistant M. tuberculosis-complex):
    • Proportion method on solid medium: ofloxacine, kanamycine, capreomycine, ethionamide

Sampling instructions

Possible on positive cultures

Storage conditions

The samples are preferably kept at room temperature or specific incubation temperatures.
The samples can be sent at room temperature.

Important advice

Pure cultures are essential for drug-susceptibility testing; liquid culture medium is often contaminated by non-mycobacteria. Confirmation of the acid fast character of the observed culture is advisable.

Prior to sending cultures on solid medium, the fluid has to be aseptically removed from the tubes.

Frequence

Standard test: daily

Extra tests: on request

How soon can you expect results?

If enough growth of a pure culture is provided: 3 weeks for the first-line drugs and up to 8 weeks for second-line drugs.
